Is this why composers can compose many pieces in such a short life span. Just as classical music began adding complexity to its functional relationships, however, by delaying the arrival at harmonic goals through increased usage of secondary dominants and deceptive cadences and by replacing traditional chords with new voicings such as the augmented sixth chord, so too in jazz one encounters a trend of increasing harmonic complexity, especially since the 1950s with the advent of bebop and hard bop.

Our patent-pending phase sequencing technology minimizes habituation and extends attention span. Don’t forget Jazz and Latin both share some African heritage so the blend comes naturally. Abair has continued to live in Los Angeles. The relationship between the new heroes and the old ones was one of estrangement, not inheritance. It was initially used to identify the style of music that later developed into rock and roll. Even more ironically, bebop became "blacker" as it moved away from the big business: while the swing era had been dominated (with few exceptions) by white big bands, the protagonists of the bebop (with the notable exception of Lennie Tristano) era were all black.

An early 1940s style known as "jumping the blues" or jump blues used small combos, up-tempo music, and blues chord progressions. Thus, the imagery of the word Ligerian (a seeming portmanteau of the Loire and Niger rivers) evokes a symbolic merging of the geographic and musical origins of the musicians themselves, while the group's name recalls the Mississippi delta, the hallowed source of the blues...

Coltrane studied Nicolas Slonimsky 's Thesaurus of Scales and Melodic Patterns, which contains material that is virtually identical to portions of "Giant Steps". [156] The harmonic complexity of "Giant Steps" is on the level of the most advanced 20th-century art music.
