Marsh and Cook (1996) studied the use of Cuisenaire rods as a support for solving word problems with three third grade students with learning disabilities. Teaching with Data Simulations: Teaching with data simulations means giving students opportunities to simulate data in order to answer a particular research question or solve a statistical problem. Yet it has been proven successful with students of virtually any background. However, when planning for educational experiences, teachers need to identify the level of cognitive processing they want to engage and select the technique that best encourages that level of thinking (Lasley, Matczynski, & Rowley, 2002).
